The Hungarian Sports Journalists’ Association (MSÚSZ) selected Mária Érdi, a world-champion sailor, as the 2023 athlete of the year and Dominik Szoboszlai, a football player for Liverpool and captain of the Hungarian national team, as the 2023 athlete of the year for women.
At the Athlete of the Year banquet on Monday night in the Opera House, the 66th voting’s winners were declared.
Similar to the previous year, the men’s football team was the best of the year in traditional team sports, while the men’s sword team took first place in individual sports team contests. The national football team’s captain, Marco Rossi, garnered the most votes among the coaches, building on his victory from the previous year.
Pál Schmitt, a two-time Olympic champion duelist, Athlete of the Nation, former president of the Republic, honorary president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee, and former member of the International Olympic Committee, accepted the MSÚSZ Lifetime Achievement Award.
