Fabrizio Romano has ruled out Chelsea signing Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres this month.
Viktor Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, with it having even been reported that the Blues made a £73m bid for him.
However, Fabrizio Romano has warned Chelsea supporters on Substack that “it’s not going to happen” in this transfer window and to “forget about it”.
Gyokeres has been in brilliant form for Sporting this term, scoring 13 goals and providing eight assists in 17 league appearances.
His record in the Championship with Coventry City was also very impressive. In the Sweden international’s final season at the club, he came up with 33 goal contributions in just under 50 outings. “Unplayable”, his former team-mate Maxime Biamou said when speaking about him on X during the 2022/23 campaign.

You can never say never with Chelsea and with Gyokeres having a release clause in his contract, a transfer does not seem impossible.
However, based on the above, it does look like Gyokeres will be remaining at Sporting for the rest of the season.
It may come as a blow to Chelsea supporters who are desperate for the club to sign a new striker, but some of the numbers being mentioned in regard to signing the former Coventry City man are crazy.
This is a forward who was playing in the Championship only a year ago. A much safer bet is probably someone like Napoli star Victor Osimhen, who has been performing at a high level longer than Gyokeres.
For example, the Nigeria international has scored 50 goals across the last three Serie A seasons.
Until Gyokeres brings a track record like that to the table, Chelsea should not be considering breaking the bank for his signature.
