Patrick Mahomes in major blow with top WR target out of Ravens game as Chiefs call up emergency cover

PATRICK Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will be without one of their starting wide receivers for their AFC Championship showdown on Sunday.

The Chiefs announced on Saturday that pass-catcher Kadarius Toney will miss Kansas City’s playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens due to a hip injury and personal reasons.

The Chiefs injury report listed Toney with only a hip injury during the week.

He was able to be a full participant on Wednesday but limited on Thursday and Friday, and Toney is set to miss his sixth straight game.

Toney has not played since Kansas City’s Week 15 victory over the New England Patriots.

Mahomes will now have to continue relying on star Travis Kelce while also getting receivers Justin Watson, Mecole Hardman, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling more involved.

The Chiefs will also look to get their young star running back Isiah Pacheco the ball to help the Chiefs combat the Ravens’ stout defense.

Since Week 15 following Toney’s injury, Mahomes and company have scored over 20 points in three out of the five games he has missed.

Despite Toney’s injury, the Chiefs will also be without fellow receiver Skyy Moore, guard Joe Thuney, and defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi.

However, the Chiefs may have a few players battle through injury and play.

Pacheco was listed with an ankle injury, defender Mike Edwards with a concussion, and linebacker Willie Gay was on the injury report under the label questionable with a neck injury.

All three players are expected to be a game-time decision.

Toney finished the 2023 regular season with 169 yards and a touchdown on 27 receptions, including several dropped passes.

The Chiefs also announced a series of roster moves ahead of their AFC Championship by elevating two practice squad players: defensive tackle Mike Pennel and cornerback Keith Taylor to the 53-man roster/
