Tom Cruise steps out for a swanky dinner at Scott’s

Mickey Rourke branded him as ‘irrelevant’ in an explosive interview earlier this week.

But Tom Cruise, 60, appeared to taking the criticism in his stride on Tuesday by flashing his famous grin as he stepped out for the first time since it aired.

The Mission: Impossible actor opted for a smart-casual look as he arrived at Scott’s restaurant in London’s Mayfair wearing a black shirt, which he tucked into dark jeans.

The screen star was likely talking shop during his dinner as he was joined by Dame Donna Langley, who is the chair of Universal Pictures.

Dapper figure: Tom Cruise, 60, stepped out for a swanky dinner at Scott’s restaurant on Tuesday

The meal was likely a celebratory event as the British film executive was made a dame at Windsor Castle earlier on Tuesday, and described the honour as ‘exceeding all expectations’.

Tom also sported a large designer silver watch, while he slipped his feet into a pair of black suede boots.

The film star stopped to sign autographs and pose for selfies with a crowd of fans that had gathered outside the swanky venue.

His outing comes after the Wrestler star Mickey, 69, didn’t hold back as he spoke about Tom while featuring as a guest on Piers Morgan Uncensored on Monday.

Criticism: His latest outing comes after fellow actor Mickey Rourke, 69, branded him ‘irrelevant’ in an explosive interview with Piers Morgan earlier this week

Pearly whites: Tom smiled and casually raised his hand to wave at fans, who had gathered outside the five-star hotel

Mickey said: ‘The guy’s [Tom] been doing the same effing part for 35 years. I got no respect for that.’

His words came after Piers asked Mickey how he felt about Tom’s latest movie Top Gun: Maverick being at the top of the box office charts.

He said: ‘That doesn’t mean s**t to me. I don’t care about money and power, I care about when I watch Al Pacino work and Chris Walken and De Niro’s early work and Richard Harris’s work and Ray Winstone’s work.

‘That’s the kind of actor I want to be like. Monty Clift and Brando back in the day.’

Party time: The meal was likely a celebratory event as the British film executive Donna was made a dame at Windsor Castle earlier on Tuesday

Mickey who? The actor didn’t appear remotely fazed by Rourke’s comments as he enjoyed his lavish meal

Dream team: Dame Donna, who oversaw franchises such as the Mamma Mia films, Despicable Me and the Fast & Furious, was recognised by Prince Charles at Windsor Castle on Tuesday

Piers pressed him further and asked: ‘You don’t think Tom Cruise is a good actor?’

‘I think he’s irrelevant, in my world,’ Mickey replied.

It is not the first time American actor and former boxer Mickey has criticised the movie world.

Last year, he criticised Marvel films as well as the actors who star in them after discussing how much he loves Law & Order: SVU which he had started watching in quarantine.

He praised the actors that star in the long-running crime drama, name-checking Mariska Hargitay, Christopher Meloni, Stephanie March, BD Wong and Ice T.

Swanky: Tom was greeted at the door of the hotel by an employee in a top hat, who held open the grand doors for him

Homeward bound: The actor waved to fans as he headed back to his hotel for the evening

Mickey said: ‘Respect to all of you, the work that you all do is real acting, not like that cr*p that all on Marvel s***.

Dame Donna Langley-Shamshiri, who oversaw franchises such as the Mamma Mia films, Despicable Me and the Fast & Furious, was recognised by Prince Charles at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.

Dame Donna, who is chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, said that the experience was, ‘incredible, exceeded all expectations, just really being in this incredible castle and walking through the rooms and seeing all the history’.

She described meeting the prince as ‘wonderful’, and said that ‘he made it feel very comfortable and natural’.

She added: ‘He was just talking about how the recovery of the production industry has been going on and we actually had the first big Hollywood film start shooting in 2020 again, resume production, with Jurassic World and I’ve met the Prince of Wales at the Bond premiere and we talked a little bit about that at that time, too.’

Discussing the future of cinema against competition from streaming services such as Netflix, Dame Donna said: ‘We can see that the audience wants to go back to the cinema.

‘Streaming is great and there’s a place in all of our lives, but movies matter most when they get a nice big release in a theatre globally and people all over the world can see them and talk about them, and I just don’t think you can beat that. So I think theatre is around for a while longer.’

Outspoken: Mickey, 69, didn’t hold back as he featured on Piers Morgan Uncensored, saying: ‘The guy’s [Tom] been doing the same effing part for 35 years. I got no respect for that’

Tom’s latest movie Top Gun: Maverick achieved an impressive milestone at the global box office as it crossed the $1billion mark.

In addition to becoming the Tom’s  most successful film of all time, the sequel to 1986’s Top Gun became the first movie of 2022 to reach that rare benchmark after just 31 days in theatres.

With those ticket sales, the movie dethroned Marvel’s superhero film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($943 million) as the highest-grossing movie of the year at the global box office.

Nicely done! Tom’s highly-anticipated film Top Gun: Maverick achieved an impressive milestone at the global box office as it crossed the $1billion mark
