After a long delay for the video game adaptation of Uncharted, fans are wondering how long the wait will be until they hear some Uncharted 2 news. The Uncharted movie is more or less an origin story for Tom Holland’s live-action Nathan Drake, and a prequel to his treasure-hunting adventures in future big-screen adaptations of the hit games. While Uncharted closes out its story, the film’s ending certainly lays the groundwork for a possible sequel, with Uncharted 2 rumors coming in as soon as the first movie was released.
After being left behind by his older brother Sam, Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) grows up on his own before being thrown into the dangerous world of treasure hunting by Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg). Sully recruits Nate to help him find the lost golden artifacts of Magellan before Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas) can get to them first. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the movie scored extraordinarily well among audiences. With that success, there are plenty of people looking for all the Uncharted 2 news to confirm the sequel.
Uncharted 2: Latest News Mark Wahlberg Seemingly Confirms A Sequel
With months of no solid details about the unconfirmed sequel, star Mark Wahlberg seemingly confirmed Uncharted 2 when he spoke candidly about the script. Though nothing has been corroborated by the studio, Wahlberg mentioned that he had been told to “Start growing your mustache” in preparation for his return as Sully. He revealed that a script had been turned in for the sequel, but didn’t drop any details.
Wahlberg’s credibility as a source is in question because of his conflicting reports on his long-gestating Six Billion Dollar Man project, but he has no reason to be untruthful about Uncharted 2. As previously stated, Uncharted 2 is still not an official project, and even if Wahlberg’s statements are correct, there’s no guarantee that the sequel will ever materialize.
Uncharted 2 Is Not Confirmed No Word Yet On The Video Game Adaptation Sequel
Despite the movie’s box-office success and Mark Wahlberg’s revelation that a script has been produced, Uncharted 2 is not a confirmed project yet. Unlike other speculative movies though, Uncharted 2 seems the most likely to succeed since it has a strong fanbase, a proven financial track record, and stars who are willing to reprise their roles.
Uncharted is currently available to stream on Hulu.
Uncharted 2: Cast Who Could Return?
The Uncharted 2 cast is unconfirmed as of now, but there are some obvious guesses. Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg would be the most likely returning cast members as Nathan Drake and Sully, respectively. Even if their casting was criticized by some fans of the games, they remain popular actors in Hollywood who Sony will likely want to keep at the head of their franchise. Sophia Ali will also likely return, especially since Chloe Frazer’s story was left hanging at the end.
Antonio Banderas and Tati Gabrielle probably won’t return, considering their characters died in the film. It’s possible Pilou Asbæk, who appeared in Uncharted‘s credits scene, will play a bigger role in the sequel alongside whoever might be cast as the adult version of Sam Drake. Uncharted 2 could also introduce Elena Fisher, Nate’s future wife in the games.
Uncharted 2: Story Details Will The Sequel Stick To The Story Of The Games?
The Uncharted 2 story has already been teased in the first Uncharted movie with some last-minute reveals. The ending of Uncharted teases that Sam Drake, Nate’s brother, is still very much alive and in prison. While it’s unclear where in the world he is, revealing Sam is not dead sets up a sequel and could continue Nate’s efforts in trying to find him. Sam may be more integrated into the story, and his return could set up his and Nate’s next adventure, as well as answer the question regarding how he survived despite being allegedly shot.
What’s more, Uncharted’s ending introduces Gage, a character who works for Roman, one of the villains from the video games. Gage is deeply interested in acquiring Nate’s ring, which belonged to Sir Francis Drake. Uncharted 2 could delve into the mystery of Nate’s supposed ancestor, leading to another adventurous treasure hunt that is a bit more personal than the one in the first film.
