After the success of The Batman (2022), Warner Bros. and director Matt Reeves decided to continue with several spin-off projects to create a mini film universe centered around the Dark Knight. One of these is the television series The Penguin, focusing on the villain Oswald Cobblepot portrayed by Colin Farrell.
The Penguin officially entered production several months ago and is still ongoing. However, DC recently released the first trailer for this series, unveiling part of Oswald’s story after the events of The Batman.
Introduced as “the next chapter in The Batman saga,” The Penguin will be set immediately after Matt Reeves’ blockbuster premiered a year earlier. The series will delve into Oswald’s life after the catastrophic flood in Gotham City. Despite facing unfavorable circumstances, the trailer clearly shows that he has not abandoned his ambitions for power and dreams of becoming the new crime lord of the city.
Additionally, though the identity has not been revealed, it’s likely that the character played by Shohreh Aghdashloo will be Oswald’s new adversary in The Penguin. Meanwhile, Rhenzy Feliz will play Oswald’s associate or henchman in his pursuit of new power in Gotham. Furthermore, the trailer also hints at Sofia Falcone, portrayed by Cristin Milioti, playing a significant role in this series. Some rumors suggest that Robert Pattinson may also appear in The Penguin in the role of Batman.
