When it comes to pulling off countless hair colors, Scarlett Johansson can truly do it all. We’ve seen the Oscar nominee, 38, rock her trademark blonde waves IRL, red curls in Black Widow, a pink bob in Lost In Translation, and now, darker short tresses, as seen in the new trailer for Wes Anderson’s upcoming film, Asteroid City.
In the flick, (which is set to premiere in US theatres on June 16, 2023), Johansson stars as Midge Campbell, a Hollywood actor who gets stuck in a 1950s-set desert town along with a character played by Jason Schwartzman, his four children, and other kooky and quirky-looking characters, in typical Andersonian fashion.
Naturally, the latest trailer broke the internet this week, with many fans comparing Johansson’s curly brown pixie cut to Judy Garland’s iconic Old Hollywood look.

The trailer, which W Magazine describes to have “a muted, pastel color scheme” and “quippy dialogue,” gives us a better glimpse of a wacky yet intriguing plot involving aliens coming to town and Johansson’s character seducing Schwartzman’s.
Throughout the clips, Johansson’s Midge always has slightly smudged eye makeup, a coral red lipstick, rosy blush and the flattering, voluminous haircut. At one point, she says to Schwartzman’s newly widowed character through parallel windows, “I do a nude scene. You want to see it?”

What We Know About The Plot Of Asteroid City, So Far
The arrival of Johansson, Schwartzman and the children coincides with the town, Asteroid City’s annual Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention. This, as the characters explain, honors the Arid Plains Meteorite that hit the area in 3007 B.C.
However, this event, “organized to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition,” according to the synopsis, is interrupted by “world-changing events.”
Other cast members of the star-studded lineup include Margot Robbie, Tom Hanks, Maya Hawke, Jeffrey Wright, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Steve Carell, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe and Jeff Goldblum.
Fan Reactions To Johansson’s Darker Hair Look
Fans couldn’t seem to get enough of Johansson’s new ‘do for the trailer, as seen in many tweets. As one user wrote, “scarlett johansson with short hair” with a heart-eyes emoji as another added, “she looks incredible!” Someone else pointed out that she and her makeup is “perfect for a Wes Anderson” movie, and based on the glimpses we’ve seen from the trailer so far, we can’t help but agree!
