The Oklahoma City Thunder responded exactly how a championship contender should on Wednesday night.
After suffering a heartbreaking double-overtime loss in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, the Thunder bounced back with a gritty 122-113 victory over the San Antonio Spurs to even the series at 1-1.
Led by a dominant performance from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City regained momentum before the series shifts to San Antonio for Game 3.
SGA Delivers MVP-Level Response
Following a difficult Game 1 performance, Gilgeous-Alexander answered with one of his strongest playoff games of the season.
The two-time MVP finished with:
- 30 points
- 9 assists
- 2 blocks
- 1 steal
He also shot 50% from the field and knocked down a deep jumper in the final minute that effectively sealed the victory for Oklahoma City.
In Game 1, Gilgeous-Alexander struggled offensively, shooting just 30.4% while posting a game-low minus-15 rating. But in Game 2, he looked far more aggressive, controlled the pace offensively, and consistently attacked San Antonio’s defense when the Thunder needed him most.
Thunder Defense Forces Spurs Into Costly Mistakes
Oklahoma City returned to its trademark defensive style, overwhelming the Spurs with pressure throughout the game.
The Thunder forced 21 San Antonio turnovers, creating transition opportunities and disrupting the Spurs’ rhythm during several key stretches.
Cason Wallace played a major role on both ends, finishing with:
- 12 points
- 4 rebounds
- 4 assists
- 4 steals
Ajay Mitchell also contributed 10 points and four steals, while Alex Caruso continued his strong postseason run with 17 points and three made three-pointers.
Seven Thunder players scored in double figures in a balanced offensive performance.
Injuries Cloud Both Teams Moving Forward
Despite the win, Oklahoma City faces growing injury concerns.
All-NBA forward Jalen Williams exited during the first half with tightness in his left hamstring — the same injury that previously caused him to miss six playoff games. He was officially ruled out during the third quarter.
The Spurs also lost key rookie guard Dylan Harper in the second half due to a leg injury. Harper had started consecutive games in place of injured point guard De’Aaron Fox, who remains sidelined with ankle soreness.
Neither team provided major updates regarding the severity of the injuries following the game.
Victor Wembanyama Still Dominates Despite Loss
Even in defeat, Victor Wembanyama once again showed why he is already becoming one of the NBA’s most unstoppable players.
After recording 41 points and 24 rebounds in Game 1, Wembanyama followed it up with:
- 21 points
- 17 rebounds
- 6 assists
- 4 blocks
However, Oklahoma City’s pressure defense forced him into four turnovers.
Meanwhile, Stephon Castle scored 25 points and added eight assists, but his nine turnovers proved costly. Castle has now committed 20 turnovers through the first two games of the series.
Series Shifts to San Antonio
The series now heads to San Antonio tied 1-1, with Game 3 scheduled for Friday night.
After splitting the first two games in Oklahoma City, both teams appear evenly matched heading into a potentially defining stretch of the Western Conference Finals.
With injuries mounting and momentum constantly shifting, the remainder of the series could ultimately come down to depth, health, and which superstar delivers under pressure.
