Michael James Perry was executed by the State of Texas on July 1, 2010, for his role in a triple murder that occurred in Montgomery County in 2001 when he was 19 years old. His case remains one of the more widely discussed Texas death penalty cases because of Perry’s age at the time of the crime and the lengthy legal proceedings that followed.
According to prosecutors, Perry and an accomplice targeted a woman in order to steal her vehicle. During the crime, three people were killed: Sandra Stotler, Adam Stotler, and Jeremy Richardson. Investigators later connected Perry to the murders, and he was arrested, charged, and prosecuted in Texas state court.
In 2003, a jury convicted Perry of capital murder and sentenced him to death. Over the following years, he pursued numerous appeals through state and federal courts. His attorneys challenged various aspects of the conviction and sentence, while prosecutors argued that the verdict should remain in place.

According to official records from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, he was pronounced dead that evening after receiving the lethal injection. Prior to the execution, Perry made a final statement in which he expressed love for members of his family and thanked supporters.
The case generated discussion among both death penalty supporters and opponents. Advocates of the sentence pointed to the severity of the crime and the jury’s verdict, while opponents cited concerns related to capital punishment and Perry’s age at the time of the murders.
