Chicago rapper Lil’ Jay Osama, 19, who previously served a 14-month sentence for a firearms violation, now faces life in federal prison plus an additional 20 years after authorities charged him in connection with a violent home invasion in Winnetka, one of the city’s wealthiest suburbs.
Federal prosecutors allege that Jay orchestrated the heist in which a group of armed men posed as food delivery workers to gain access to the residence of a cryptocurrency investor. During the robbery, the suspects allegedly stole $111,300, which would have been split among the seven co-conspirators at approximately $16,000 each.
Investigators say they have amassed significant evidence tying Lil’ Jay to the crime, including text messages, phone call records, and GPS location data. The victim has been fully cooperating with authorities, providing critical testimony that may influence the outcome of the case.
The six other individuals involved in the home invasion are also facing life sentences, heightening the likelihood that one or more may cooperate with prosecutors to provide information against Lil’ Jay Osama.
“This case demonstrates the federal government’s focus on prosecuting organized, violent crime and serves as a stark reminder that criminal schemes involving firearms and high-value property carry severe consequences,” a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
