Sandra Bullock’s 2022 action-adventure movie The Lost City, which was a box office success, is now winning again on the Netflix global charts.
Sandra Bullock’s The Lost City is finding additional success on streaming as it makes the Netflix Global Top 10. Originally released in theaters in March 2022, the cast of The Lost City stars Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Brad Pitt. The action-adventure movie tells the story of shy author Loretta Sage (Bullock), who is catapulted into a jungle-bound adventure when she is involved in an abduction attempt.
Over a year-and-a-half post-release, The Lost City has made it onto the Netflix Global Top 10. The action-adventure came in at no. 9 on the Netflix Global Top 10 for the week of October 9-October 15, with 3.1 million views. Topping the list this week were Netflix originals Reptile (no. 1) and Fair Play (no. 2), with 14.2 and 14 million views, respectively.
The Lost City’s Streaming & Box Office Success Explained
While its Netflix global top 10 inclusion comes long after its release, The Lost City’s success comes as no surprise based on its track record. The movie grossed nearly $193 million worldwide during its theatrical release, an impressive feat for a spring release. Made on an estimated $68 million budget, this cemented The Lost City as a financial success.
Of its $192.9 million worldwide gross, $87.5 million of that total came from international ticket sales. Following suit with this overseas success, The Lost City made the Netflix Global Top 10 in seven countries, reaching no. 1 in Greece and the Netherlands. Thus, its Netflix chart exemplifies the staying power with global audiences.
The most recent accomplishment begs whether The Lost City 2 might be coming down the pipeline. While Bullock generally has a “no sequel” rule after her experience with Speed 2: Cruise Control, the actor previously suggested that she might be open to The Lost City sequel under the right conditions. The sequel is not confirmed after over a year of its release, but between Bullock’s hopeful outlook and its Netflix success, the chances may have improved.
