‘Definitely’… Glen Johnson says Chelsea should be keeping their eye on signing £87m winger now

Glen Johnson thinks Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is a player that Chelsea should be keeping their eye on as a potential target.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who’s still only 22, is a huge star in Naples.

He’s a very exciting left-winger who’s got 18 goals and 22 assists in 59 Napoli games since his move to Italy in 2022.

So, will we ever see the trickster test himself in the Premier League?

Big praise for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

Glen Johnson has been asked whether Napoli’s Kvaratskhelia would be a good signing for his former club Chelsea.

He told GGRecon: “I’ve obviously not seen him play as much as the wingers that are currently with Chelsea, but from what I saw of Kvaratskhelia in the Champions League with Napoli last season, he looks like a proper threat in front of goal. He’s quick, he’s got a great strike on him and he will get goals, which is something that many of the wingers aren’t doing at this moment in time at Chelsea.

“They don’t necessarily need to buy another winger, but Kvaratskhelia could represent a step up on some of the wingers at the club if he continues on doing what he’s doing at the highest level. If he’s available and he’s not going to cost an astronomical amount, then this is definitely a deal for Chelsea to keep their eye on.”

Chelsea interest

Calcio Mercato reported a few days ago that Chelsea are leading the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid in the race to sign £87million-rated star Kvaratskhelia.

There’s no doubt that the Georgia international is a special player, something he showed when he helped Napoli win the Serie A title last season.

In our view, Chelsea don’t need this skilful wide player as a priority. We’d much rather the focus be on a No 9!

You could make a decent case that Kvaratskhelia would improve the XI, but there’s plenty of wide players at the club fighting it out. This includes the talent of players such as Raheem Sterling, Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk and Cole Palmer.
