Young Nigerian basketball teen wins full scholarship to the US, set to earn degree and become professional basketball player

A young Nigerian basketball teenager named Daramola Taiwo has secured a full scholarship to the United States to earn a university degree while working towards becoming a professional basketball player.

Daramola Taiwo is a U-15 basketballer from Ekiti State in Nigeria who was awarded a scholarship by the pastor of his church, Holy Trinity Authority Prophetic Church, Ekiti.

The scholarship covers both Taiwo’s academic and career as a basketballer. Daramola will continue his studies alongside building his basketball career in the United States of America.

The General Overseer of Holy Trinity Authority Prophetic Church, Prophet James Omitade said he recognised the talent in Daramola which instigated him to get a coach for him to train him on the skills.

”The word of God enjoins us to help lift one another’s burden especially if we see that such help will lead him or her out of the woods. In any case, two years ago, the spirit of the lord led me to secure a coach for Taiwo Daramola to help him gain basketball skills,” Prophet Omitade said.

Prophet Omitade said Daramola would be relocating to California in the United States where he would be playing a tournament with other American U-15 basketballers.

“As God will have it, it was consummated on Thursday when he left the shores of the country Nigeria to California, USA where he joined the rest of his American colleagues in playing in a tournament on Saturday where he will continue his education,” he said.

He expressed his gratitude to everyone who helped him in securing a link for Daramola’s passion and studies. Prophet Omitade said he hopes the young boy will bring glory to Ekiti state and Nigeria.
