However, under a plea deal finalized on Friday, Smith pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, resulting in the other charges being dropped. He was subsequently sentenced to 20 years behind bars without the possibility of parole. According to his attorney, Michael Scholl, Smith will receive credit for the time he has already served, meaning he is expected to spend around 15 more years in prison. Scholl also noted that Smith has expressed remorse throughout the legal process.
