DJ Akademiks Weighs In on Drake and A$AP Rocky Beef, Says Rap Battle Feels One-Sided
DJ Akademiks, despite being a well-known supporter of Drake, has shared a more critical take on the Toronto rapper’s ongoing feud with A$AP Rocky, suggesting the conflict has become increasingly one-sided and personal.
Drake and A$AP Rocky both released new projects this year — ICEMAN and Don’t Be Dumb — with fans quickly dissecting alleged diss lines aimed at each other across both albums. While Akademiks has previously leaned toward Drake in most rap debates, he now says the dynamic between the two feels less like a competitive rap battle and more like a personal dispute.
During a recent livestream clip shared by CY Chels on Twitter, Akademiks argued that Drake’s larger feud with Kendrick Lamar carries far more weight than his issues with Rocky, describing the latter situation as an “interpersonal issue” tied to relationships involving Rihanna and past romantic history.
“This is dk and p*y business,” the streamer remarked, pointing to the overlapping personal connections between the artists involved.
Akademiks went on to say that while he prefers Drake’s music, he feels the situation has become unbalanced, suggesting that Rocky is not responding strongly enough to Drake’s lyrical shots.
“I like Drake’s music more, but I don’t want to see a full-on bullying,” DJ Akademiks said. “I kind of want A$AP to fight back a little bit. A$AP, you don’t got nothing going, bro? Fight back, crodie. Make it interesting. They’re arguing over women…”
He also referenced Rocky’s subtle lyrical mentions of Drake on Don’t Be Dumb, but said he does not consider them strong enough responses in the ongoing back-and-forth. Akademiks added that Drake appears fully committed to escalating the tension while Rocky’s replies feel minimal in comparison.
“I kind of feel bad… Rocky, you gotta hit back…” he added, while noting Drake fans have been heavily criticizing Rocky’s recent performances online.
Although Akademiks stated he does not believe A$AP Rocky would win a direct lyrical battle against Drake, he expressed hope that Rocky would respond more forcefully to keep the rivalry competitive rather than one-sided.
