Plans Underway to ‘Reverse’ Meghan & Harry’s Frogmore Cottage Renovations After Three Years

Plans are reportedly underway to “reverse” the multi-million-dollar renovations made to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s former U.K. home, Frogmore Cottage, according to The Sun on May 27.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex lived at Frogmore Cottage from April 2019 to March 2020 before stepping back from royal duties and relocating to the U.S. The property, a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth, underwent a $3 million renovation funded initially by the Sovereign Grant and later reimbursed by the couple. The refurbishment transformed the previously semi-detached homes into a five-bedroom residence, with updates to heating, electrical, gas, and water systems, as well as a redesign of dorm-style units. Buckingham Palace sources confirmed that the couple privately paid for movable items, furnishings, upgraded kitchens, bathrooms, wardrobes, and other personal touches, while speculation about features like a yoga room was debunked.

According to the report, options for Frogmore’s future are being considered, including subdividing the property or returning it to its pre-Meghan and Harry layout. One source said:

“It’s been empty for three years…It would draw the line under Frogmore Cottage’s controversial history and return it to the pre-Meghan and Harry era.”

The Sussexes retained the home during visits to the U.K., including Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022 and the late Queen’s funeral in September 2022. The property was also featured in glimpses in the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, released in December 2022.

Following their departure from Frogmore Cottage, the couple established a new residence in Montecito, California, where they welcomed their daughter, Princess Lilibet, in June 2021.

The potential “reverse renovation” marks a new chapter for Frogmore Cottage, returning it to its earlier configuration after the Sussexes’ tenure and the significant updates they commissioned.
