Kanye West and Travis Scott have encountered another major obstacle in their international touring plans after officials in Italy canceled their scheduled performances in the Reggio Emilia region. The concerts, which were expected to take place in July, have been called off due to security concerns and public controversy surrounding Kanye West.
The decision was announced by Prefect Salvatore Angieri, a local government official, following complaints from members of the local Jewish community regarding West’s planned appearance. According to officials, concerns surrounding the rapper’s past antisemitic remarks contributed significantly to the decision-making process.
Authorities also pointed to the broader international response Kanye has faced in recent years. The regional prefecture noted that previous cancellations and restrictions imposed by other countries were taken into account. Most notably, West was recently banned from entering the United Kingdom because of his past controversial statements, a development that continues to affect his ability to perform internationally.
While the controversy surrounding West was an important factor, officials emphasized that security considerations played a central role. The concerts were expected to attract massive crowds, creating additional logistical and public safety concerns. Authorities ultimately concluded that proceeding with the events was not in the region’s best interest.
The cancellation marks a stark contrast from the reception Kanye West and Travis Scott received in Italy in 2023. At that time, the two artists drew enormous crowds during their performance at Rome’s historic Circus Maximus, one of the most talked-about live music events of the year. Their return to Italy was expected to generate similar excitement before plans were abruptly halted.
The lineup for the July event was also set to feature several major international acts, including The Chainsmokers, Rita Ora, and Swedish House Mafia. As a result, the cancellation affects not only West and Scott but also a broader festival-style event that was expected to draw fans from across Europe.
This latest setback continues a difficult stretch for Kanye’s touring ambitions. In recent months, several planned appearances have reportedly been canceled or disrupted. His inability to perform at London’s Wireless Festival became one of the most high-profile examples, significantly impacting the event’s plans.
