The Houston Rockets are expected to be active in the offseason as they look to strengthen a roster that is already shifting toward “win-now” expectations. While free agency remains an option, much of the league attention has turned toward the trade market, where Houston could potentially make a major splash.
One proposed scenario, outlined by Bleacher Report contributor Grant Hughes, suggests the Rockets could pursue a blockbuster deal for Anthony Davis. In the hypothetical trade, Houston would send Jabari Smith Jr., Dorian Finney-Smith, Tari Eason, and a 2027 second-round pick to the Washington Wizards in exchange for the former MVP-caliber big man.
According to the proposal, the deal could be structured as a sign-and-trade due to Tari Eason’s restricted free agency status. While the package includes multiple players, the most significant asset going out would be Jabari Smith Jr., the No. 3 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and one of Houston’s most promising young defenders.
From a basketball perspective, the move would dramatically shift Houston’s identity. Pairing Anthony Davis with Alperen Sengün would create one of the most physically imposing frontcourts in the league, giving the Rockets elite size, rebounding, and defensive versatility inside the paint.
However, concerns remain about spacing and durability. Davis’ injury history has been a consistent factor throughout his career, and any long-term investment would carry inherent risk. Still, when healthy, he remains one of the league’s most dominant two-way forces, capable of elevating Houston’s ceiling immediately.
The Rockets’ supporting core, including Kevin Durant, Fred VanVleet, and Amen Thompson, would give the team a competitive perimeter group to balance the frontcourt presence of Davis and Sengün. If executed successfully, the trade could position Houston as a legitimate contender in a highly competitive Western Conference.
As with all hypothetical trade scenarios, the final decision would depend on Houston’s front office evaluation of its long-term timeline versus immediate championship aspirations.
