The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly keeping a close eye on Naz Reid as they continue searching for frontcourt upgrades around Luka Dončić.
According to Brett Siegel, the Lakers have strong interest in Reid, a versatile big man who could immediately address several needs for Los Angeles. While no deal is currently confirmed, the fit is easy to understand.
Reid brings a rare combination of scoring, shooting, rebounding, and physicality. He is not just a traditional center who lives around the rim. He can stretch the floor, attack slower defenders, punish mismatches, and give a team offensive flexibility from either frontcourt spot.
That skill set is exactly why he would make sense for the Lakers.
Around Luka Dončić, floor spacing is everything. Luka is at his best when the court is open, the bigs can either roll hard or pop out, and defenders are forced to make uncomfortable decisions. Reid would give Los Angeles a big who can do both: finish inside and pull defenders away from the paint.
That is not easy to find.
The Lakers have been linked to several center and frontcourt options this offseason, but Reid may be one of the most appealing names because of his versatility. He can play next to another big, function as a small-ball center, or come off the bench as a scoring weapon who changes the rhythm of a game.
For a team trying to contend, that matters.
The challenge, however, is availability. Interest does not mean a trade is close. If Reid’s current team does not want to move him, the Lakers would need to either wait for the market to shift or present an offer strong enough to create real conversations.
That is why this remains a situation to watch rather than a developing deal.
Still, from a basketball standpoint, Reid checks a lot of boxes for Los Angeles. He gives them shooting. He gives them size. He gives them toughness. He gives them another frontcourt player who can survive in playoff matchups.
Not every perfect fit is realistic. But if the Lakers can find a path to Naz Reid, it could become one of their smartest moves of the offseason.
