Here’s Why Kate Hudson Didn’t Like Having Goldie Hawn As Her Mom

What’s Kate Hudson’s relationship with Goldie Hawn really like?

In 2019, Kate Hudson and her famous brother Oliver Husdon announced that they were launching a podcast titled Sibling Revelry. During each episode of the podcast, Oliver and Kate welcome other pairs of siblings to discuss their lives and how to develop a better relationship with your brother or sister. As a result of her podcast, a lot of attention has been paid to Kate’s personal life lately, including her fractured relationship with her biological father.

Of course, anyone who is aware of Kate Hudson’s personal life will know that she was brought up by two incredibly famous actors, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. When most people imagine what it would be like to have famous parents, they focus on the bright side. Despite that, Hudson has revealed in the past that at one time she didn’t like that her mom was incredibly famous.

Kate And Oliver Hudson Didn’t Like Having Famous Parents

In September of 2016, Kate Hudson appeared on The Howard Stern Show. Since Stern’s celebrity interviews tend to be spectacular, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that Hudson was very reflective during their conversation. For example, Kate discussed what it was like for her growing up in the shadow of her famous parents and some people are likely to be surprised that she didn’t like it.

During the aforementioned interview, Howard Stern brought up the fact that Kate Hudson has spoken about how it felt when she went out with her famous mom as a kid. “You said when you were around 12 years old, you’d go out somewhere with your mom. And you’d be in public, and it embarrassed you that she would get so much attention.” In response, Kate succinctly expressed how she felt about the attention her mom received. “I didn’t like it.” Since Kate is a mom now herself, it is interesting to think about the strong possibility that her kids might feel the same way about her fame.

Of course, Kate Hudson stating that she didn’t like having a famous mom once isn’t overly compelling. However, Kate and her brother Oliver Hudson have both spoken on other occasions about the fact that when they were kids they disliked the attention that having a famous mom garnered. For example, when Kate and her mom Goldie Hawn guest-hosted The Ellen DeGeneres Show together, Oliver joined them and the siblings shared an anecdote about their mother.

According to the Hudson siblings, Kate and Oliver went to sleepaway camp when they were young kids. While talking about that experience, Oliver immediately brought up his desire to make sure nobody at the camp knew who his famous mom was. “It was my duty in my life to have nobody know who my parents were. I just wanted to be my own thing. I didn’t want anybody to know my mother was Goldie Hawn.” At that point in the anecdote, Kate chimed in to agree that she didn’t want anyone at the camp to know who her mom is. “Ditto.” From there, Oliver explained “I did the best I could, no one knew at camp” but all of that was ruined when a seaplane arrived in the water beside their campgrounds and Hawn came out waving.

Kate Hudson Clearly Admires Goldie Hawn Today

Even though she has made it clear that she was embarrassed by her mom’s fame as a kid, Kate Hudson is more than happy to praise Goldie Hawn as an adult. For example, Hudson regularly shares photos of Hawn on social media along with touching captions about her mom. On top of that, Hudson often talks about the bond she has with Hawn during interviews and how much she adores her.

At one point when Kate Hudson was talking to People, she remarked on how much Goldie Hawn means to her in the context of fans adoring her mom. “As much as she means to other people for other reasons, she is literally the life force for me and my family.” During a separate interview with PopSugar, Hudson remarked on how often she and Hawn speak to each other. I pretty much talk to her every day. I can’t really go a week. I’ve gone a week, but it’s super rare.”

Of course, it is common for people to talk to their parents often. However, Kate Hudson has revealed that Goldie Hawn was a great role model for her as she has followed in her mom’s footsteps while co-parenting. “I think that the one thing that I learned from my mom is that no matter what you’re feeling and no matter what – when I see my friends talking s— about their ex-spouses in front of their kids, I get so upset because they don’t recognize how much that affects their child and how resentful their child will become of them. No matter what, I never heard a bad word about my father.”
