When a character exits a show, there’s always the glimmer of hope that they will return for some crucial event that justifies their existence in the daytime landscape. That’s what former General Hospital star Robert Palmer Watkins was hoping to see for Dillon Quartermaine. When Kiki Jerome (Hayley Erin, now Young & Restless‘ Claire) was stabbed to death by Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom), he had to return for the funeral. Right?!! Sigh.

We all know that didn’t happen, but we did get Watkins’ thoughts about the significant oversight in the storyline. Revealing to that he had “no idea why” General Hospital producers didn’t write Dillon back in for at least an episode, he found the situation “so confusing” — and we don’t blame him. “There were storylines that were just dropped completely. And look, I get it. There’s a lot going on behind the scenes that I don’t understand, and people don’t get to see,” he says. “But when there are storylines that were started, I think it’s almost insulting to the fans to not at least touch back on that.”
Watkins didn’t hold back — and there are a lot of General Hospital viewers who would agree with this sentiment: “For Dillon to not be at Kiki’s funeral was ridiculous.” Seriously — why wasn’t he back in Port Charles? This was the former love of his life. Even though he believes Dillon is “working on scripts and movies” either “in LA or New York” now, he would never be too busy to honor Kiki’s life.
Even with this storyline frustration, Watkins says he’d “love to stop back in Port Charles” if General Hospital ever needs him. In the meantime, viewers will find him doing stints in primetime on shows like The Walking Dead: World Beyond and S.W.A.T., but a return to daytime has eluded him so far… unless General Hospital is ready for another Dillon cameo.
