Ian Wright was left really impressed with Chelsea star Cole Palmer in tonight’s loss against Manchester United.
He took to Twitter to praise the 21-year-old at half-time after he found the net to level the game at the time at Old Trafford.
Palmer was back in Manchester for the first time since his £45m deadline day move to Chelsea, and he marked it with a goal on the stroke of half-time to drag the Blues back into the game.
They had spent the majority of the opening 45 minutes on the back foot, and could have been further behind than they were after Enzo Fernandez gave away a penalty.
Bruno Fernandes was denied from the spot by Robert Sanchez, with Chelsea very much holding on in the opening stages.
This was until Mykhailo Mudryk fed Palmer, who coolly found the bottom corner past Andre Onana.
Wright on Palmer
Wright quickly took to social media to throw praise towards the England international.
He said: “Cole Palmer’s finish way beyond his years. That’s just pure football knowledge and feel of where he is and what the keepers doing ! Look at the pace that ball went in at. Brilliant.”
The midfielder’s goal was not enough for the Blues, as Scott McTominay’s second of the night gave the hosts a 2-1 win.
Chelsea will now be looking to bounce back at the weekend when they make the trip to Goodison Park to face Everton.
Palmer will be one of those certainly on the pitch, with him being the only real asset in attack on what will go down as an extremely disappointing night as far as Mauricio Pochettino is concerned.
