Max Verstappen, the reigning world champion, has been dominating the pinnacle of motor racing for several years. The 2023 campaign was also the same story but with the sport coming to a halt at the end of Abu Dhabi, Verstappen has admitted that he has spoken to Fernando Alonso about racing in Le Mans.

Fernando Alonso has competed in Le Mans twice in his racing career so far, and surprisedly, has managed to triumph in the event on both occasions. Max Verstappen feels that one day down the line, he also wants to have a crack at competing in the historic 24-hour race.

While sharing his thoughts on the same recently, he said during the Honda Racing Thanks Day;

I’ve been speaking to Fernando about it [racing Le Mans as teammates], he said he’d only like to do it [again] with me. But I’m quite a heavy driver, so I need to find a lighter teammate. I need to have a look.

The 26-year-old has made it known that he’s had conversations with Alonso where the topic of racing as teammates in the Le Mans competition has come up. But with Verstappen being a heavy driver, he feels that he would most probably need lighter teammates.

Max Verstappen has several times in the past admitted that he wants to try out new things

While Max Verstappen has recently talked about his desire to one day race in Le Mans, it is not the first time that he has admitted to exploring what’s outside F1. On past occasions, he has several times admitted that he does not want to race only in F1 but wants to try out different things.

Verstappen is currently contracted to Red Bull until the end of 2028, and who knows, after that, he might take a sabbatical from the pinnacle of motor racing for a year or two and challenge himself in other competitions. Moreover, with him being only 26, time is very much on his side to do what he wants.

Max Verstappen is considered one of the best drivers to step foot into the world of F1, considering this, it would be fascinating to see him trying his hands at other competitions. Whenever it happens, several eyes will surely be on him as wherever he goes, the spotlight is always on him.
